Update to Fawkner Park Improvements

By Association, Melbourne City Council, Parks and Gardens, Planning No Comments

This has been in the planning with community consultation since 2017.  For full details visit CoM Participate Melbourne website

Late in 2019 a heritage permit was refused by Heritage Victoria.  The CoM requested a review of the refusal and A decision was made by the Heritage Council to overturn the heritage permit refusal. A Permit has now been issued with conditions.

MSYRG has participated over the years and made submissions to the CoM and Heritage Victoria supporting the plans as we believe it balances the need for better managing this very busy park entrance  and the unique heritage of the park itself

CoM hopes to commence construction later this year.

Original post:

The City of Melbourne have released their draft plans for some improvements to the Pasley Street Entrance to the Park. The plans are currently before Heritage Victoria at the moment. Submissions may be made if you have an issue with this proposal.

A rash of thefts from parked vehicles in Park Street and surrounding areas is concerning residents so much that MSYRG organised a video conference meeting for members and police. The meeting was held on July 4 and was addressed by Ash Quinn from Southbank police station who was very helpful answering questions from attendees and providing useful hints and information.

The brazen offender has been recorded on security cameras and posters with photos from the security footage have been posted along the street but the thief remains at large.
